Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton was born on January 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. She was raised with 12 other children. Her vivid imagination enabled her to escape the harsh realities of everyday life. Before she began learning to write and read, she began creating her own music. She bought her first guitar at the age of 8 and began performing on a Knoxville Tenn radio station at 11 years old. That same year she made her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. In high school, she made her name locally but was always dreaming of a larger stage. The day after she graduated in 1964 she relocated to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. In the year 1967, Porter Wagoner was looking for someone new to sing on the show he had syndicated to television. Parton took the job in the year 1966. She joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. Parton left the show however, in 1974 due to her solo albums such as Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene over-sold the collaborations. Parton wrote I Will Always love You in honor of Wagoner following their split. It reached No. The first time it made it to No. 1 was 1974.
