Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was raised in Barcelona. Her diverse music style has earned her the label of "atypical pop star". In the age of thirteen, she fell in an obsession with Spanish folk music and studied musicology at the Catalonia College of Music. She also performed at weddings and music bars. It reinvented flamenco, combining it with pop music and hip-hop. The two singles "Malamente" and "Pienso in tu Mira" were a hit among the Spanish public and received all-encompassing critical acclaim. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia onto the international stage. [12][13] Rosalia explored urbano music with her 2019 releases "Con Altura" and "Yo Ti x Tu x Mi", having global success. The third studio album she released, Motomami (2022) gave reggaeton an exciting new sound, different from the traditional flamenco style. The album's two singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" attracted the attention of global audiences and was the top-rated album by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one singles in her native country in the span of her entire career. This is the most she's ever had for an artist from her own country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including 2 Album of the Year awards) and four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been awarded to Rosalia. She also received two Premio Ruido Awards. In the year 2019 Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award for "changing the style of popular music with her innovative flamenco-influenced pop",[18] and became the first Spanish-singing act in history to be recognized as the Best New Artist at the Grammys
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Rosalia is the youngest of four children to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who owns a tiny metalworking company. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. They divorced in 2019. The actress has an older sister, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989), who works with Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia was fascinated by performing arts from at an early age. She was able to discover the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical studies in Taller de Musics. She took a six-year course in the academy. She started attending classes at the Raval school and later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Additionally, she was a solo singer, singing at weddings, and at musical bars. She was compensated "a barely more than 80 euros" or as a reward for dinner. Rosalia was capable of meeting many underground Spanish performers during that time , such as La Zowi and Yung Beef, Kaydy Case, Hinds Maria Escarmiento and Kaydy Cain.
